It seems the question most on people’s minds when considering a new TV is plasma vs. LCD It’s actually not a simple question since both technologies provide amazing color and crystal clear images, not to mention a huge choice of sizes. LCD and plasma are in essence competing technologies in which lately it would appear that LCD is quickly becoming the favorite. Technically they are very different with LCD being rear projection style, while plasma uses natural gases excited by electric current to form the pixels that make up the picture on a plasma display.
The question of LCD vs. plasma becomes complicated even more by the fact that now LCD TV displays are available in larger sizes and also have become competitive in pricing to plasma units. This really makes it a hard decision for consumers. In the past it was always about the size, picture quality and price. Today the rapidly changing technologies of LCD and plasma make size and picture no longer an issue, or price for that matter. You can have any size TV display with a picture that is truly unbelievable and only a few years ago would have seemed impossible. It certainly makes the argument of LCD vs. plasma a hard one and the decision may not be easy. In the past, LCD vs. plasma was a clearer decision than it is now. Plasma was always the choice due as its technology advanced a lot more quickly than LCD technology. Plasma blasted into the TV market and gained popularity very quickly. It turned the consumer TV market on its head in not time. Thinking about the old school TV’s and their size and picture inferiority, it is hard to imagine a time when plasma didn’t exist. Well, now LCD has become the hot new kid on the block of the TV world and is quickly gaining its own popularity. What do you do when considering LCD vs. plasma? They both are so superior to old school TV tubes and projector units and provide energy efficient and convenient packages to choose from it could be a very hard decision. Cost is no longer a real issue, since they are about the same it’s really not a factor. Consider this fact though. LCD TV displays can be used as display units for other machines like computers and projectors. Maybe multiple uses could be the deciding factor.
